I didn't really know how to answer this question (about what my hairstyle says about me) because I don't really style my hair much; I only associate a few things with my hair (mainly because, I must confess, I don't actually know how to use anything else);
I wasn't sure what else I could say about my hair, so I decided to consult a wise and omniscient source - the internet! After much browsing, I came across an article and two quizzes:
The article's called "20 Things Your Hairstyle Says About You" and is on Cosmopolitan. It includes 20 hairstyles (along with pictures of actresses with those hairstyles), and mini descriptions of what each style means. I identify most closely with #11 (straight, boring hair isn't an option): "Women who don't tend to their hair and just throw it into a mumsy braid, for example, put their own needs last." I don't "tend to my hair," and I do put others first because that was what I was taught to do, growing up...but I mean...I sort of feel uncomfortable pointing it out; I feel like "[putting their] own needs last" is something all humans should do (meaning that a person's hairstyle shouldn't determine this quality). Aren't we supposed to be compassionate and loving creatures? "[Putting your] own needs last" shouldn't be a quality that you can see just by looking at someone's hair. Being "fun and wild" or trying to "express yourself" are qualities that certainly come through in hairstyles, but "[putting your] own needs last?" I'm not too sure about that...but I think I'm just being too picky.
Anyways, I also took a quiz called "What Does Your Hair Say about You?" from SheKnows. My results were: I'm "laid-back" and "hippy." Interesting! I guess I'm "laid-back?" Until there's an assessment, that is! I always thought that I was more of an anxious person (as opposed to "laid-back"), but that "laid-back" was a much better state to be in! As for "hippy," I'm not too sure about that. To be honest, I'm not the sort of person who's flexible enough to do yoga, nor am I the sort of person who's very at one with nature. Yes, I've gone camping (once upon a time, I was a Girl Scout!), but I'm terrified of bugs. I think I'm more of a city girl than a nature girl; I'd rather drive a car (if I had a license) than hike, I'd rather swim in a pool than in a lake. But mainly because of bugs. *shudder*
The second quiz I took was called "What Does Your Hair Say about Your Personality?" from AllTheTests.com. My results were: 40% humble, 30% insecure, 30% confident. I wasn't very sure how to interpret this. How can you tell if someone's humble just by looking at that person's hair? Perhaps by "humble," the author means not too "flashy..." And aren't insecurity and confidence antonyms? How can one be simultaneously insecure and confident, if we're talking about personality? How do I interpret this?
I suppose my initial response to my hairstyle was probably too boring to be on a quiz. But I learned a lot about my hairstyle through the internet. In a nutshell, to me, my hairstyle seems boring and standard but conveys a sense of valuing neatness and order. To the internet, my hairstyle tells others that I "put [my] own needs last," I'm a "hippy" who is "laid-back," I'm "humble," I'm "insecure," and at the same time, I'm "confident." Needless to say, I'm a bit skeptical of how conclusions like this can be drawn from a person's hairstyle.
