I love drawing: whether it's doodling in the margins of my notebook, sketching in my sketchbook, or filling a blank piece of paper with color, drawing's my thing.
I cannot imagine a life without drawing, because it's my way of speaking. I'm not exactly a social butterfly; I'd probably say I'm an introvert. I tend to shy away because I'm worried that the next thing I do or say might be interpreted incorrectly, but it's different with drawing; small mistakes can be covered, medium mistakes can be erased, big mistakes can be forgotten by starting on a fresh piece of paper. And although I can and do communicate verbally, I think I can express myself the best using graphite, charcoal, or pastel and a piece of paper; it's easier to simply show another person what I mean rather than spend hours and hours finding the right words.
I also love drawing because it's an escape to an entirely new world. This is a world you can create, a world where rules are governed solely by you. Butterflies the size of humans? Bubbles that can transport us anywhere? Traveling by boat across the sky? That's a typical Tuesday in this world. It can be full of nightmares, or full of dreams (I tend to prefer the latter). In this world, you are free...and drawing's my ticket to this fantastical world.

I typically draw inspiration (haha, draw inspiration...) from dreams (not just the kind you have at night as you sleep...I also mean dreams by "wishes," "daydreams," etc.), emotions, and everyday occurrences. Most notably, while reading books. For instance, last year, for English class, we read The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald...which I actually found to be quite enjoyable. I unconsciously (at first) based this piece (right) on the book. The eggs represent West Egg and East Egg, the mountains border "the valley of ashes," the green light is...the green light, the lamp is the moon, and the boat is inspired by the last line of the book:
"So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."
Anyways (I think I went on a bit of a tangent there), to wrap my post up: what is something that gives me joy, something I wouldn't mind spending countless hours doing (or perhaps wouldn't notice doing for countless hours), something I simply cannot live without? The answer, my dear friends, is drawing. Drawing is my passion.
